Signing with Atlantic Records in 1992, Stone Temple Pilots developed a considerable fan base upon the release of their first album, ‘Core’, which peaked at number three on the Billboard Albums Chart. In the same year, Weiland and DeLeo played an acoustic version of ‘Plush’ on the MTV show ‘Headbanger’s Ball’, and is still considered one of Weiland’s greatest vocal performances.

Former frontman Scott Weiland tragically died from an accidental drug overdose in December 2015. According to a medical examiner’s office in Minnesota, he was found dead on his tour bus with cocaine, alcohol and the amphetamine MDA – a drug similar to ecstasy – in his system.
