Original poster for Urban Dance Squad – Persona Non Grata

Urban Dance Squad was a Dutch rap rock band formed after what was originally intended as a one-time jam-session at a festival in Utrecht on December 20, 1986. The band’s music is genre-fluid, shifting between and merging heavy metal, funk, jazz and ska. The five members, including DJ DNA, recorded their first album, ‘Mental Floss for the Globe’, in Brussels in 1989, with the single ‘Deeper Shade of Soul’ becoming a hit in Europe and the United States.

‘Persona Non Grata’ (Latin for ‘person not welcome’ was an album released in the middle of the band’s career in January 1994. The tracks feature heavy use of distortion and guitar and, unlike the first two albums, it’s without overdubs. ‘Demagogue’ became a clubhit everywhere and even entered the charts in the Netherlands. The band visited many festivals and shows that summer, including Dynamo Open Air, Pinkpop for the third time, Phoenix Birmingham, and Bizarre, alongside Biohazard.
